Abstract

The present investigation dealt with the state of hydration and the Body Mass Index (BMI) of the softball players of the Autonomous University of the Caribbean in the city of Barraquilla, whose general objective was to establish the state of hydration and the body mass index. According to kos softball players from the Universidad Autonomy del Caribe, during games the loss of body water that occurs reached shigh proportion switch respect to the values that sedentary people have. These losses are conditioned by the intensity of the match, the ambient temperature and humidity, especially through perspiration ors weat (Santangelo Magrini& Cohen Grinvald., 1999). In turn, relate it to the loss of body weight and the variation of the Body Mass Index. In this sense, its hould be taken into account that the higher the ambient degrees and the relative humidity, the body water loss as increases ignificantly, according to the above, it is necessary to take into a ccount the time of day in which this sport is practiced, with a type of quantitative research and a positivist paradigm (also called empirical - analytical), used the use of techniques for the assessment of the variables submitted, which allowed determining the color emery, urinary density, body weight, height and mass index body for a total sample made up of 11 players who voluntarily participated in the study. The results showed that the values for the weight of the individuals participating in the study remained constant before the game and after the softball game they presented variations while their hydration status presented variation at the beginning and end of the physical activity.
